Couple nearly tossed $250,000 lotto ticket

Maryland Lottery officials said a couple who recently won a $250,000 Mega Millions prize nearly threw the ticket in the trash.

The officials said the couple, whose names were not released, told them the wife had tossed the winning ticket in the trash can the day after the Friday drawing, WBAL-TV, Baltimore, reported Monday.

Beverly Ralls bought her Deal or No Deal ticket at Rooster’s Casino in Stevensville.

One winning ticket was sold for the $310,000 cashpot in Saturday night’s drawing for the Washington State Lottery’s Hit 5 game.

Nobody won the $5.5 million Lotto jackpot, so Monday’s top prizes will be $5.6 million in Lotto and $100,000 in Hit 5.

In Lotto, 17 tickets were sold with five of the six winning numbers and are worth $1,000 each. Another 945 tickets had four winning numbers and are worth $30 apiece. Sales were $507,995 and the winning numbers were: 2-13-20-38-39-46.

Peggy Abernathy said she doesn’t normally like playing the last scratch-off lottery ticket on a roll, but the last ticket she scratched off netted her $5 million last week.

Abernathy, a Turner’s Corner resident, won a $5 million scratch-off lottery game Sept. 3. She bought the winning ticket at Chattahoochee Grocery, a gas station and convenience store on Highway 115 East in White County.
