You’ve just won the lottery – what are you going to do next?

For employees of auto dealership Bray Motors in Sundridge near Huntsville, the answer is planning to return to work.

The decision may seem especially unusual when you find out how much each worker took home.

“Almost $903,000!” cheered one lucky recipient. Actually, each share is worth $902,914.24.

That’s 1/25th of one half of the second biggest jackpot in Canadian history.

The total prize was a whopping $45 million and there were only two winning tickets. The second was sold in Quebec, and so far, the holder has not come forward.

But the other 22.25 million big ones were split amongst the owners and staff. They’d been buying tickets for at least 14 years before the big payoff.

The day the big win was announced, fifty-six year old salesman Clarence Hummel remained calm long enough to deliver a Chevy Malibu to a waiting customer.

“I remember my customer talking to me. I could see his lips moving but I couldn’t hear anything. I had to call him later to apologize, but he laughed and said he understood,” Hummel jokes.

The entire company took the day off Tuesday to party at the CNE (top left) and even brought along the most junior staff member, 23-year-old Taylor Armstrong.

“It hasn’t still sunk in yet but I guess it has … I’ve been there a whole three months,” he beamed.

A cheque presentation took place at the Ex, leading to huge applause from the crowd while the winners danced to the sweet sound of cash.

Afterward, each of the winners took a ride on the Ferris wheel before heading to the bank.

While a spin on an amusement park ride may not be the smartest spot for a nearly million dollar cheque, the employees have shown they’re not ones for conventional decisions.

After all, come Wednesday it’s back to work – with a few extra holidays. The average Bray Motors employee makes roughly $30,000 each year, making each person’s take almost 30 years pay.

But the win isn’t the only big one being celebrated in Ontario. On Friday, 11 employees at a London pub split a $15 million windfall. It was their second victory in as many plays: the first time, they won a free ticket.

And when they played that freebie they took home over a million dollars each.

A group of residents from Ontario and a winner from Quebec will be splitting Wednesday’s $45-million jackpot.

Peter Bray, the owner of Bray Motors, in Sundridge, Ont. and 24 employees are sharing the winnings of $22.5 million.

“I hope everyone keeps working and I’m sure they will with the exception of a couple that were on the verge of retirement,” he told CTV Toronto. “But the rest of us are going to be here and business will go on as usual.”

A Bray Motors employee had been buying a ticket for the group for the past 14 years, he said.

Bray told CTV Newsnet that no employee was left out from the jackpot.

The 25 lucky winners will be taking home more than $900,000 each.

The company held a previously planned barbeque Thursday, which was understandably more festive than what employees normally expect out of a company get-together.

The Quebec-winning ticket holder has not yet claimed the prize yet.

The second-prize amount of nearly $4 million was split between 17 people. Seven other lucky Ontario residents each won $220,055 of that pot.

Millions of people across Canada were hoping to strike it rich in the second-largest jackpot in Canadian history.

Fred Barsum, a hand and tarot card reader, envisioned more than one person hitting the jackpot, he told CTV Southwestern Ontario on Wednesday.

“It might be a split between two or three different winners out of the same number,” he said.

Those lucky numbers were 10, 18, 22, 26, 34 and 38, with a bonus of 39.

Although he has a knack for picking numbers, Barsum did not play himself. Besides, he says, “It’s not the winning that’s important. It’s what you do with that winning.”

Still, the masses of people who did play for a chance at the jackpot brought in nearly $28 million sales in Ontario alone.

Wednesday’s jackpot beat out the 2006 jackpot of $43 million, which was also split by winning tickets from Ontario and Quebec.

A group of 17 oil and gas workers from Alberta won Canada’s largest jackpot of more than $54 million in 2005.
