Gilley, 42, who works for PBM Graphics in Greensboro, said he was in the area on a work-related trip when he stopped in to buy a drink.

“My knees buckled,” Gilley said. “I ran out of the store, locked myself in the car and signed the back of the ticket.”

Gilley, who plans to keep his job fixing printing machines, said he intends to take his wife on a vacation, pay for his daughter’s college degree and “enjoy life and his family.”

Gilley played the “$130 Million Blockbuster” scratch-off game, a game he’s only played a few times.

“That was the sixth ticket that I’ve bought,” he said.

That is, if they don’t come forward by 5 p.m. on Thursday.

The ticket was purchased at Parker’s Stop and Shop on Reidsville Road in Winston-Salem on March 8.

Another ticket purchased in Lillington on March 15 is set to expire on Sept. 11. That ticket is also worth $200,000.

Lottery officials said that if the prizes go unclaimed, half of the money will be distributed to the Education Lottery Fund and half will fund prizes on future games.

McNeil bought her winning ticket at the Grocery Boy Jr. #39 on Kildaire Farm Road in Cary.

Her $1 million prize will be paid out as an annuity — $50,000 minus taxes each August for 20 years. She received her first payment Tuesday morning.

McNeil said she will use her windfall to pay bills and relax at the beach.

The “$130 Million Blockbuster” instant scratch-off game has 10 $1 million prizes along with tens of thousands of other prizes. In addition, toward the end of the game there will be a drawing for one prize of $50,000 a year “for life” with a minimum payout of 20 years. The N.C. Education Lottery has paid out more than $22.5 million in prizes on the ticket that first went on sale August 5.

The odds of winning are 1 in 1.7 million.

In last Thursday’s “Carolina Cash 5″ drawing, James Peterkin of Apex collected $131,965. Peterkin bought his winning ticket at the Willow Creek BP on Old Honeycutt Road in Fuquay-Varina.
